Working together in a way that rewards & values contributions building sustainable, mutually respectful & productive relationships
True partnerships in research are built on equality—everyone’s role is valued and respected. Reciprocity is at the heart of this, ensuring mutual benefit for both communities and researchers.
Recognition matters. That means timely reimbursement for individuals and VCFSE organisations, and building reward and recognition into funding bids. Appreciation and thanks should be part of everything we do.
Feedback is essential too—not just telling communities what happened, but showing the difference their involvement made. And we collect feedback from communities to keep improving how we work together.
We also share support and learning opportunities to build confidence and skills for involvement in research. Knowledge flows both ways—between communities and organisations—so research creates sustainable, positive outcomes that last beyond the study.
That’s what equality and respect looks like in practice.
